Sorry, I kind of disappeared for a little while there...that's what 2 kids, a few trips and December did to me this year :D
And the reason that I was able to be so busy was that I have finally, after 5 months gotten this bloody UC under control, thanks finally to have been given to the steroids I was so desperate for in July. The positive thinking does go a long way in helping UC and believe me when I say that without it and Guy's therapies, I would have been a hell of a lot worse of. I just needed a bit more a helping hand to get this flare-up under control so that I can try and maintain it now.
The trip to Paris with the kids also getting their day trip to Disneyland was a blast. I can't believe that I've never had the urge to visit Paris before. We're already planning our trip back in spring.
Our first Christmas in France has been good. I did have a little hiccup with a slight trace of blood but I put that down to doing too much and a slight bit of stress due to a broken tooth. Yes, it was stupid to get upset over a broken tooth but living here in France and not speaking fluent French causes all sorts of bother when you need to do a simply task! Anyway...tooth temporarily sorted and I'm back for proper filling in a few weeks.
The next thing I have to look forward to is a quick trip back to Oz...that's my big test with UC...I hate flying and it always stresses me out and bang.....I have a flare-up...so fingers crossed..... plus...I'll still be coming down from the steriods...so lets see if I can make it there in back without with any incidents.
Anyway....Happy New Year to everyone...may we all be UC free in 2010
Paula...
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you finally got steroids! This whole time reading your blog I didn't understand why the doctors wouldn't put you on them. Have you had any negative side effects? What dose are you on? As much as I hated the side effects of them, I know I wouldn't have been able to get better without them. I'm so happy that you are feeling better. I hope it stays this way even through your flight.
Happy New Year!!!
Hi Paula, Happy NY. Glad you've got things under control. I always found the preds were the only drug that was any good at all - that's why i ended up on 'em for so long. Hopefully they'll knock your flare on the head and you can get off 'em quite quick. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.
ReplyDeleteWhen are you flying back to oz?
Hi Jodi - I also have no idea what the French don't like to give out steriods...that was causing me major stress in the end..surfice to say when I do the quick trip home, I'm going to load up with what ever I can get my hands on as I'm not going to end up in that state again while I'm here...and the good thing will be that once I get all my supplies then my bet is I won't have a flare-up :D .. I don't appear to have any side effects this time at all...no europium and no bad moods...strange but true...I'm surprised myself. I started on 50mg and was on that level for 4 weeks...dropped to 40 for 5 days..trace of blood..so I increased to 50 for 5 days...dropped to 45 after 5 days and now on 9th day of 40..dropping to 35 on Wednesday...back to docs on 19th Jan...should be done and clear of the steroids by March I think...if all goes well...and then I'm back on a maintenance drug...which I think I'll go back to the big yellow tablets and give them another go as I think mesalazine no longer works for me...but who knows...UC is pretty hit and miss
ReplyDeleteHi Rich - Me too...I think that's why I got so pissed off with the doctor here...but the French really do their own thing and it has to be done their way!!...and it's really didn't make a blind bit of difference what I said..I think if I'd had pain it would have been different...but I'm lucky and I don't get the constant pain like other...just 30 secs notice pain and bam it hits !! Back to Oz in 31 days for 2 weeks...not that I'm counting :D ... my mates on facebook are going to be so bored of my countdown by the time flying out comes around :D
I'm hoping that 2010 and a cupboard full of meds (for just in case) will hopefully make me UC and stress free very soon :D
Paula! Thank you for thinking of me. I'm still kicking. Just w/the holidays and moving, I haven't had much time to blog. There really isn't any new developments either. Hope you had a good holiday!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Flying is a big fat nightmare huh. Let us know how you did. ;)
So glad to hear that you are doing better! Good luck with the airplane trip, they always stress me out too. What part of Australia are you from? My husband lived in South Sydney for a couple years (for a religious mission). Hope you continue to enjoy the holidays and that this year finds you in the best health and spirits possible!
