SCD Diet - Days 26 - 28

Day 26 - Fri
I'm wondering if I should have peeled my apple before I ate it this morning as I had real pains this afternoon...not enough to make you cry, but enough to make you sit there and hold on until the cramp passed. This week with so many BM's, I'm beginning to doubt the SCD diet...but I know that it takes time and I'm not even at the end of week 4 yet.

I want, I need, I should, I fear......
I just want to get better though, but I need to see some real signs of improvement and not just fleeting moments where I get my hopes up, only to have them dashed the next day.
I need to have a birthday where I'm not bleeding. The last 3 have been horrible.
I should be grateful though as I'm leading a relatively normal life and can out and about, but the fear is returning that I'm going back to my 30 secs notice.
I fear getting worse.


Meds - 4 x Salazopyrin, Pred Enema
Vitamins - Magnesium with Folic acid and Vit D (combo 1 tablet), Cod Liver Oil (525mg one tablet)
Weight - 61.7 kgs(135.7lb s)

BM's
  1. 7am - Only the remains of the enema with a bit of M. Could not see any B.
  2. 7.30am - Small movement, og normal consistency, a little bit of M, could see no B
  3. 2.00pm - Not much passed, but a normal consistency, a far bit of M & B
  4. 3.00pm - Only Ms with a little bit of B
  5. 10.50pm - Normal consistency, not sure if there is any M or B


Day 27 - Sat
I totally blew off the SCD Diet today after a horrible Friday and the feeling that the almond flour was doing me more damage than good. The stomach pains subsided finally in the afternoon and I went made toast with bread for lunch followed by pretzel sticks as a snack and my dinner also comprised of avocado on toast with garlic chicken.


Meds - 3 x Salofalk (1g granules)
Vitamins - Magnesium with Folic acid and Vit D (combo 1 tablet)

Weight - 61.7 kgs(135.7lb s)

BMs
  1. 7am - Not much passed except for the remains of the enema.
  2. 10pm - Normal with a bit of M and possibly a bit of B.
Day 28 - Sun
Still not back on the SCD Diet. Instead I had cornflakes for breakfast, followed at lunch with a toasted cheese and ham sandwich, followed by a Tim Tam biscuit and then an ice-cream when we went out, but for dinner I returned to the SCD Diet. Now I have to decide if I should continue with this diet or not as it seems to be causing me gut pain and I'm not seeing any improvement at all. I would have assumed that after 4 weeks, the BM's would have at least drop slightly, but instead I'm going more. This again could be because I'm off prednisolne, but surely I should have seen some improvement since to begin with this was only a mild flare-up. I feel that I have gotten worse in the last few weeks. Tomorrow is a new day, so I'll see how I feel in the morning and I'll decide then if I should continue with the SCD Diet or not.

  2. 6pm - Slight urgency, but otherwise small movement with a bit of M, could not detect B
  3. 8pm - Urgency with little passed. A bit of M noted.
  4. 10.30pm - Slight urgency, normal BM, then D. This was immediately after I had finished a cup of tea.

  1. Sorry to hear you are not completely on the mend yet. I hope you are feeling 100% soon. When is your birthday?

  2. The problem with SCD is that is doesn't work like medication. One minute your great the next your trying to decide how you ended up in the bathroom 10 times today. It's not so much a problem with the diet that it is a problem with our minds. When your doing everything your suppose to be doing and your feeling shity. You want to have a reason for feeling that way. I can tell you in all honesty that It was 9-10 months before I was able to even eat a raw peeled fruit or veggie. And even still at almost one year I have days where I have tried to eat watermelon and ended up paying the price. The stages on pecanbread.com help and but it's a slow process to get to stage 5. I'm still at stage 3 & 4. I wonder if I will ever be able to live a life of advanced SCD. And each time I cheated I had to start all over. After a few times of that, I wouldn't stray. I think SCD works but only within the guidelines of being strict. We are all so different and that what makes the IBD thing such a challenge. For me at this point I have just decided I will eat what I can, SCD or not. For me non-SCD stuff makes me so ill that I'm about 90% SCD. I hope you get to have a blood free birthday this year and each one after that...you deserve it.

  3. Thanks Guys :D .... I've just started some probiotiques also.

    @ Candice - I think the main problem I have with SCD is that I was feeling worse after 3 weeks...did you have that issue? I also haven't seen any improvement only worsening. I've now deviated from SCD slighty, but I'm very careful not o take any sugar in. I'll give this a week or so more and see what happens, then I'll decide is I go back to strict SCD or continue with my deviation. I have made contact with an english speaking naturopath and hopefully I'll get to see her in 2 weeks once we get back from holidays. Maybe she can help also. She's supposed to be very good

  4. Yes and no. I felt bad for the first 3 weeks, then I felt awesome for about 4 weeks then worse than better then worse. The first 6 months were up and down. It was at month 8 when I got better, then I started on 3 grams of sulfazine and have been doing great ever since. I still have times where I have tried to eat grapes or something with skin and have cramping but no need for predisone in the last 7 months so thats a good thing. I have an terrible reaction to sugar as well if anything you have learned some triggers and some stuff to stay away from. Its a long process I'm glad I did it and glad I'm still doing it but it's the hardest thing I have ever done in my whole life!
